Charlie's musical growth has been a journey driven by curiosity and enjoyment. He works with music that students already enjoy and helps students discover different aspects of music based on their own curiosity. This sometimes means playing a students' favourite song "Master of Puppets" by Metalica and learning the melody, song structure, and harmony on Saxophone. Teaching in this way keeps the student intrested and playing music that they like and will eventually understand. Students take music lessons for different reasons, some take lessons to get extra help with high school and middle school programs, some take lessons because they want to play music purely for enjoyment, and some take lessons because they are planning for a career in music and are preparing for an audition to a post secondary institution. Each of these students will be taught differently and will have customized lessons to suit their goals. Charlie's lessons are well balanced. All areas of music including technique, reperitoire, melody, composition harmony, rhythm, ear training, imrov are taught right from the very first lesson.
